Guitar Compositions
Debussyan Petit Fantasy
This work is inspired by Debussy’s La Mer & Estampes. The 6th string is tuned down to Db, and also includes tremolo, whole tone harmony and the lydian dominant scale. The rhythm is a Habanera with Milonga arpeggios. Debussyan Petit Fantasy should be performed poco rubato e misterioso.
Epilogo (danza final) in memoriam J. Morel
This work is inspired by a tune by Andrés Chazarreta (Argentine folklore pioneer) which maestro
Morel informally arranged and introduced to me in New York around 2011, mentioning that I
should “add my Argentine/jazz influences.” My intention was to portray three generations of the
folkloric genre and honor my maestro. To be performed ritmico & con brio.
Suite Cosmopolitan
Duet for two guitars.
This suite for two guitars is inspired by the city of New York and its diverse cultures. Therefore Latin rhythms, jazz harmonies and European influences are represented.
Scherzo after Hindemith
This work was inspired by the second movement "Turandot" of Hindemith's 1943 Symphonic Metamorphosis. Composed on a pentatonic infused Asian theme, my adaptation includes tremolo, contrary motion counterpoint (Baroque/contemporary style), with whole tone harmonies and New York jazz influences.
Aire de Milonga
Solo guitar.
The piece is a minor/dark/slow milonga "misterioso, night time".
Suite Ficciones
This traditional style Suite is inspired by three short stories from the legendary book “Ficciones” (1941) by Argentina’s most celebrated writer and poet Jorge Luis Borges (1899-1986). Total duration approx. 10 min.
Mimita
“Mimita” was the knickname of Argentine guitarist/composer Maria Luisa Anido (1907 – 1996). Although mostly in A major, I prefer not to use key signature since there are many “outside notes and chords”. Spanish & Cuban references are included where she lived in her later years.
